The holidays are always fun because they have a great lead-up to them. All the preparation, the shopping, the decorating, it's no wonder people start to feel down right after. Then the last swing of mixed emotions with New Year's Eve and reflecting on your year. It's no wonder people sometimes travel to get out of feeling this way. But if you're weren't that lucky to get away this year then you can start by doing this one thing to get you refocused and remotivated.
Get Moving: Yes. Helping your body's energy flow by doing something active is the best way to jump start the New Year but also beat those Holiday Blues!
The Holiday's almost always bring unusually big meals with foods that we don't eat year round, This alone can make your body go into shock and make you feel uncomfortable. For some, this uncomfortable feeling becomes a justification of why they are "not good enough" at putting limits and thus spirals them into a slump. The only way out of this is #getmoving. Go for a walk after a big meal until you feel better. The following day, go for another walk after breakfast. You're body (and mind) will thank you for it.
The holiday season will always include some alcoholic beverages and if you happen to overinduldge then you'll be feeling it the day after (if you're like me then sevearl days after). Even when you feel crappy, #getmoving! Get up and force yourself to walk or ride it out. If you have access to a sauna or steam room, then head straight there. Sweat it out without moving too much would be best. A hot shower could be helpful, too. Even biking or walking until you get tired are very good rememdies. You can look here and here for more tips getting over the post-alcohol blues.
Getting motivated literally takes one step into the right direction. #getmoving is about doing something fun that you enjoy or even something new that is different and exciting that will get you moving and sweating.
Do any of the following:
Jumping- Squat low and reach for the sky!
Jumping Jacks- and old favorite of mine
Jump Rope- trust me 5 minutes is a good start!
Skipping- Brings you back to childhood and hopefully a smile to your face
Walking- My personal favorite. Try using ankle weights or trekking poles
Jogging- not quite running but definitely right up there
Yoga- great way to break a sweat while deep breathing
Pilates- another great way to sweat while surrounded by peers
Swimming- either in the sea or pool
Dancing or Zumba- nothing like some music to jump start to feeling good
Helping your body feeling good will trigger endorphins and other hormones to help jump start feeling postively about yourself and therefore, get you refocused and remotivated. Trust me when I say it, #getmoving or get stuck. So what are you waiting for?!!? #letsdoittogether #newyearnewhabits #startnow
